And The Fastest Land Animal In The World Is...

If you though the fastest land animal in the world is a Cheetah, you're wrong! A new study reveals that the world's fastest animal relative to its body size is a small Southern California mite. The little creature can travel 322 body lengths in a second, which researchers say would equate to 1,300 miles per hour for a human. They say by comparison, a cheetah tops out at about 16 body lengths per second, or roughly 70 miles per hour. To find this, researchers used a high-speed camera to study how quickly different animals moved. The mite beat out the Australian tiger beetle, which previously held the record for the fastest relative speed.
