Chill You Bottle Of Bubbly For Good Reasons
by Chris Malone,posted Dec 24 2013 5:28AM
Keeping your bottle of bubbly chilled not only makes it taste great, it makes opening it safer. Researchers from the Champagne region of France have recently discovered that the warmer the bottle of Champagne the faster the cork travels when popped. Researchers say the cork of a bottle kept at about 40 degrees Fahrenheit traveled at about 25 miles-per-hour while the cork of a bottle kept at about 65-degrees Fahrenheit traveled up to 34 miles-per-hour. Researchers claim this happens because the gases inside the bubbles move faster at warmer temperatures, which increases the velocity of the cork. The American Academy of Opthamology says that last year almost a fifth of serious eye injuries were blamed on flying champagne corks. (Daily Mail)
