Parents Paying More For Back To School Supplies

Many kids are already back in the classroom, with Alachua, Marion, Gilchrist and Levy County schools beginning Monday. That means parents are buying the required supplies. Management consulting and technology services company Accenture polled parents of children entering kindergarten through college and found that 89 percent plan to do most of their back-to-school shopping in a physical store. Sixty seven percent of parents said they plan to spend between $100 and $500, while 41 percent plan to spend $500 or more. Fifty two percent said they'll spend more on back-to-school shopping than last year, and just 37 percent said they plan to spend the same amount. Experts say parents are paying more because costs are up, not because they have more money to spend.
