Pre-Packaged Food That Is Healthier Than Fresh

While many people look to improve health in 2018 there are some common misunderstandings that only fresh foods are eth way to go.  While it is true most processed foods are less-than-ideal nutritionally, some are actually equal to or may even be greater than the fresh. Canned or boxed tomatoes can be healthier than fresh tomatoes when talking about lycopene, an antioxidant found to reduce the risk of heart disease and some cancers and possibly strokes. During the canning process tomatoes are subject to heat and heating tomatoes causes the lycopene to concentrate and is easier for the body to absorb it.  Cans and pouches of wild-caught salmon is chock full of omega-3 fatty acids.  The trouble is wild-caught salmon is seasonal and you pay a hefty price for freshly frozen salmon.  However the canned and pouched varieties still offer the benefits of the freshly frozen but costs less and contains lower calories and saturated fat than farmed varieties. You might not think of pesto as a health food but it is full of olive oil and pine nuts, plus basil, cheese, and garlic which aid in digestion.  For every 10 grams per day (about three-fourths of a tablespoon) that you increase your intake of olive oil, you might lower your risk of developing type 2 diabetes by 9%. Three servings of whole grains per day (instead of none) may decrease the risk of heart disease and stroke by about 20% and 12%. Precooked grains, such quinoa, can be ready in a few minutes without much waste and are essential to good health. Buy varieties without added salt instead of seasoned ones, because those products can contain a good deal of sodium. Finally pre-packaged hard boiled eggs eliminate the cooking (and undercooking) of eggs while providing a great supply of protein and they’re low in saturated fat.
