: Long car trips can be exhausting for adults and torture if you have small children.  For those who haven't quite grasped the understanding of sitting for hours in the car or whose attention span isn't fully developed you may be tempted to give them a book bag full of toys and activities.  This is a mistake says a child expert who warns by giving your kids all their activities at once, they'll go through all of them before you get out of the driveway.  The key is to pace their activities. While on the journey, you should be the keeper of the bag of goodies, and surprise your kids with a different toy or activity every hour, or whenever they’re done with the one they’re playing with. From comic books to a small puzzle to a bag of snacks, pacing them out will ensure your trip is smoother.  And the activities don't have to be physical objects. Playing road trip games like "I Spy" or turning on a kids’ audio quiz show can be great distractions.  If you do bring an electronic device, such as an iPad or tablet, experts say you should save it for the final stretch of the trip, the time most likely you’ll need it most.
