Everybody Gets a Raise at Ikea

Ikea, the assemble-it-yourself furniture store most-cursed by non-handy men, announced this week it would be increasing the minimum wage for its co-workers across the country. The hourly rate will go up to an average of about $10.76 – it will vary from area to area – but overall, workers are looking at an increase of about 17%.

The interesting angle is that Ikea, in the true spirit of its mission, took this move on its own. There is a national movement to increase the minimum wage, but it’s not yet a mandate.

Action News in Kansas City has the full story below.

Of course, increased wages means increased costs, and those expenses usually come out of something else. So, until things sort out, you should be even more careful than normal when resting or sitting on any Ikea product. There’s really no telling if it will hold up or not.
